Labour Ministry Commences Nationwide Alien Work Permits Audit

Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah

The Government of Liberia (GoL), through the Ministry of Labour, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 commenced a nationwide audit of Work Permits at all Business and Concession areas in Liberia.

According to a  Labour Ministry press release, the exercise is to ensure that all aliens employed within the Republic of Liberia are operating in compliance with the terms under which their work permits were granted.

The audit is also intended to ensure individuals/non-Liberians in possession of work permits with companies and concession areas are engaged in the job prescribed by the work permit application.

The Ministry said it has observed an alarming trend wherein employers misrepresent the actual job roles of alien employees during permit application process, especially application for renewal.

‘‘Therefore, as of the commencement of this audit exercise, all employers are mandated to present the approved work permit applications for all aliens workers, a list of Liberia workers and their job titles, and a list of all alien employees and their positions.’’

The release added that, any company found to have misrepresented the job function of an alien worker will face revocation of the work permit.

At the same time, alien workers found operating outside the scope of their approved roles may be subject to legal action prescribed by the Decent Work Act of 2015.

The Ministry emphasized that Transparency and compliance with national labour regulations are essential to protecting job opportunities, ensuring fair labour practices, and maintaining the integrity of our workforce.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour urged all employers and alien workers to cooperate fully with the special team during the process.
