U.S.-based MK Industries Formally Expresses Its Interest In Partnering With  GoL

In a significant development for Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, U.S.-based MK Industries, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, has formally expressed its interest in partnering with the Government of Liberia(GoL) through the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) to establish the country’s fish processing and fish meal factory.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the company’s facility in Atlanta. The meeting brought together the leadership of NaFAA and MK Industries CEO, Mr. Ali Katoot, who reaffirmed his company’s commitment to collaborating with the government to bring this transformative project to fruition.

The Government of Liberia, through NaFAA and with support from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), will construct a fish processing facility in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, with construction slated to begin in 2026.

MK Industries will lease, equip, and operationalize the facility, integrating artisanal fishing communities across Liberia’s nine coastal counties into the supply chain.

The collaboration will also extend to the Ministry of Agriculture to boost local production of soybeans and maize, essential ingredients in sustainable fish feed production.

This strategic partnership is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Liberians across the fisheries and agriculture sectors and significantly reduce Liberia’s reliance on imported fish, promoting food security and boosting local fish production.

Establish a sustainable, value-added processing industry that links coastal communities to national and regional markets.
